GNOME.Asia Summit 2022 invites you to participate as a speaker! Join us for this year’s conference on December 2nd-4th in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia by submitting your abstract.

GNOME.Asia is the featured annual GNOME conference in Asia and focuses primarily on the GNOME desktop, applications, and platform development tools. The Summit brings together the GNOME community in Asia to provide a forum for users, developers, foundation leaders, governments, and businesses to discuss current technology and future developments. Possible talk topics are suggested below, but topics are not limited to this list.

Please provide a short abstract of your presentation (under 200 words). Also include your name, biographical information, title, and desired length of the session.

Embrace the Future with Open Technology, Hong Kong Open Source Conference 2020 Comes Back in June

Hong Kong Open Source Conference (the Conference), the conference event focusing on introducing and the encouragement of open source culture, will kick-off the 8th annual Conference event on Jun 12 in Cyberport, Hong Kong.

Back in March, the Conference called the developers and IT pros all around the world for submission of speech proposal. The reaction was positive; finally, 20 proposals are selected, covering extensive topics such as AI, cloud technology, software development, and information platform build-up. Our highlighted programs include: “How to build an online learning platform that engages and educates students at scale with AWS” (by Cyris Wong, Data Scientist, HKIVE), “Open by default: trying to run a startup with open source culture in mind” (by William Chong, LikeCoin Foundation) and “Guide to Responsible AI for Developers” (by Verlebie Chan, Software Development Engineer, Microsoft).

Other than the speakers from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, and the United States (overseas speakers would deliver speeches via live streaming), our major sponsors – Microsoft, Red Hat, and MySQL would have their speech or workshop sessions on the related topics.

Under the annual motto “Stay Safe and Carry On”, the Conference will be held in “dual-mode” – the on-site conference in Cyberport, and the webinar on the designated social media platform. Facing the unexpected challenges brought by the novel coronavirus 2019 9 (COVID-19) pandemic, we manage to hold the on-site event to encourage community exchange and sharing. The Conference ticket is available for order in Eventbrite now. The $50 ticket package includes a two-day conference pass and $200 food and beverage coupon (two $100 coupon for day one and day two, while stock last). Also, we will issue the letter of attendance to those on-site event participants in need.

Precautionary measures such as body temperature check, equipment cleansing, social distancing, and the provision of sterilizer will be adopted to maintain a safe and healthy event space.

As the Conference will be held in webinar form, the provision of event live streaming and chatroom would enable interested parties to participate in the Conference and interact with the audiences and speakers.

First Global Students Open Source Conference sosconf 2019 to Bring Together Next-Generation Tech Community

Student Open Source Conference (sosconf) is the very first student-held, student-centered international conference focusing on open source. It will be a great opportunity for students around the world to gather, connect and learn from each other. For companies and organizations, it will be a chance to show their support for open source and to meet an extremely diverse group of students. This year, the conference will be held at University of Southern California in Los Angeles on September 1, with a welcome banquet on the previous evening. Students of any education levels around the world are welcome to participate as audience, volunteers or speakers, with an opportunity to obtain travel reimbursement.

Open-source software is a piece of software whose source code is distributed, modified and reused by the public with a few restrictions. The emphasis of open-source development on freedom, collaboration and community appeals to Silicon Valley companies and student organizations alike.

“sosconf is brought to students, by students,” said Ivan, an undergraduate student at University of Southern California (a.k.a. USC) and the Convenor of sosconf 2019 Committee. The conference is organized by an international community of students, who have also contributed to events such as GNOME.Asia, FOSSASIA, PyCon and IBM Developer Day.

On the other hand, only students are eligible to be speakers and volunteers. All speakers and volunteers with outstanding work will receive travel reimbursement. The sosconf 2019 Committee is dedicated to making the conference accessible to all students in the world.

Non-students can also participate in different ways. Our supporters and supervisors include active community members and professors from colleges in multiple countries.

Today’s students have diverse interests in the most exciting technology areas where evolution is a constant. “Many USC students I know are developing their own interests in very specific dimensions,” said Ivan, “and that deserves more attention.” The conference will be divided into several tracks each dedicated to a technology domain, such as Machine Learning, Operating Systems, Information Security, Decentralization, and Arts and Design. There will also be a “Women in Open Source” track, and a “Communities” track featuring student contributors in renowned open source communities.

The conference will be more than talks and networking. It will be a template for future sosconf’s organized by students in different places in the world. The team is developing open-source tools such as a user system and a ticket system, as well as Hexang.org, an “open-source lifestyle platform”, for project management. Other resources will also be available to student communities around the world for reference and “forking”.

PyCon APAC 2018 is back in Singapore

PyCon APAC 2018 is back in Singapore from May 31 to June 2 2018. The last time in Singapore was in 2012.

4 keynote speakers with machine learning and data science is now announced: Katharine Jarmul, Radim Řehůřek, Alan Descoins and Dr. Yves J. Hilpisch. Call for Proposals is still on going until May 1st.

Education Summit and Young Coders’ Workshops are 2 other highlights in PyCon APAC 2018. Education Summit is a gathering of educators focused on bringing computational thinking and coding literacy, through Python, to the classroom and the community. Organisers invite passionate educators to join the discussion, share insights, learn things and build networks!

Young Coders’ Workshops targets for younger audience aged 18 and below, this aims to enthuse the young about the joy of experiential and hands-on learning through Python coding.

PHPConf.Asia 2018 will be hosted in Singapore

PHPConf.Asia 2018 will be hosted in 26-29 September at NUSS Kent Ridge Guild House in Singapore. Main Conference will be on 27-28 September, and workshop will be on 26 & 29 September. PHPConf.Asia is also known as PHP Conference Asia.

Rasmus Lerdorf, the creator of PHP will be keynote speaker at the conference. And Sebastian Bergmann, creator of PHPUnit. Co-Founder, thePHPcc and bbpconsulting will be another keynote speaker.
